Abstract
The separation of eleven pure bryostatins by thin-layer chromatography has been accomplished on silica gel plates with n-hexane-acetone, 7 + 3, and n-hexane - ethyl acetate, 1 + 1, for normal phase chromatography and methanol-water, 3 + 1, for reversed phase chromatography. The technique was suitable for analysis of bryostatins in bioactive fractions from extracts of the marine bryozoan Bugula neritina. The method was also used in support of structure elucidation, the acetylation of bryostatins 1 and 2, and the hydrolysis of acetates; the hydrolysis of bryostatins 4-11 was also studied by TLC.
