Abstract

Some of the significant factors that lead consumers in abandoning one consumer product for another are discussed. The availability of consumer technologies play a key role in consumers' preference for a certain product. Consumer technologies have become more affordable are easily accessible, and have significant value-propositions. Many of these technologies, such as Web browsers, are also available on the Internet as shareware or freeware. Consumers are able to switch between consumer products effectively, due to the availability of large number of consumer technologies. Technology providers are competing with each other, to introduce their product in the competitive market, providing more alternatives for consumers. Another factor that has enabled consumers to switch between products, is low differentiation among various technology options.
