    Abstract

This chapter outlines a proposal for the next generation of studies on the "criminology of place" and discusses how this can contribute to basic knowledge and more informed public policy. Building on the work of David Farrington to advance prospective longitudinal studies to investigate within- and between-individual differences in offending, a similar research strategy is called for (and sketched out) to investigate important questions concerning the criminology of place.
