Abstract

This paper presents a new method for the realtime estimation of origin-destination flows on isolated actuation-controlled signalized intersections in the presence of incomplete observations of exiting counts. To make full use of the information obtained from currently-installed loop detectors, a two-step optimization procedure is developed, different from the conventional generalized least squares formulation. Kalman filtering (constrained and unconstrained) is adopted to solve the models, and a numerical example is provided to verify the proposed formulation.
