Abstract

In this study, we propose a model that extends the assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) to consider parallel lines with tool requirements by task and demand fulfillment (ALBPTD). We develop an integer program to minimize the system's total cost including the variable operational and fixed costs associated with workstations and tooling. The proposed model investigates the best demand distribution among lines. To assess the model's performance, test data sets from the literature are employed with different problem sizes and precedence structures. The model performs well in terms of computational time for medium sized problems.
