Abstract

We have studied the unique magnetic quantum oscillations observed in well relaxed (TMTSF)2ClO4 samples by both resistance and magnetization measurements. The same oscillation frequency is present in the resistance in the normal metallic state, throughout the field induced spin density wave phases, to above the very high field transition. This demonstrates an intrinsic periodicity in the system which is not sensitive to the FISDW transitions, yet coupled to SDW in a subtle way. We discuss the possible explanation in terms of quantized edge states or as the result of electron interference due to magnetic breakdown through an energy gap generated by the anion ordering transition.
