Abstract
The interaction between magnetic monopoles and electric flux tubes is shown to be repulsive to all orders in strong-coupling perturbation theory for a U(1) lattice gauge theory. The significance of this result and the possibility of extension to non-Abelian theories is discussed. For SU(3), the interaction energy is computed to lowest nontrivial order.
