Abstract

The correspondence of prominent personalities with friends and colleagues has always been a primary source of insight for their biographers. The demise of snail mail and the rise of electronic communications, however, has created a nightmare for future biographers, who will have a hard time recovering files buried in old, unreadable media, or incompatible with the latest software.
