Abstract
The isomerization dynamics of dymethylaminobenzylidene-1,3-indandione (DMABI) molecules in solvents of different viscosity and polarity were investigated using picosecond pump-probe absorption spectroscopy. Isomerization time was found to depend linearly on the solvent viscosity, while the temperature changes the dynamics only through the solvent viscosity. Solvent polarity affected steady state and transient difference absorption spectra, but not the isomerization dynamics. Four different characteristic times of various isomerization stages were found from the global analysis of the transient absorption dynamics at different wavelengths.
