Abstract
We study the gravitational field of a loop of cosmic string in detail. The cusps of the loops play a vital role in the behavior of test particles in the vicinity of the loop. In particular, the cusps shoot out a repulsive gravitational beam. The results of a numerical simulation of particle (noninteracting) accretion around a loop are also presented. The pattern of accretion is extremely interesting and may have numerous astrophysical applications.
