N2 - In his speech before the US Congress in May 2010, Mexican President Felipe Calderón denounced Arizona's SB 1070, noting it "ignores a reality that cannot be erased by decree" and introduces "racial profiling as a basis for law enforcement." 1 Calderón's comment built on an earlier statement by US President Barack Obama, who said, "... in the United States of America, no lawabiding person-be they an American citizen, a legal immigrant, or a visitor or tourist from Mexico-should ever be subject to suspicion simply because of what they look like.".
