N2 - The majority of cholestatic liver diseases can be diagnosed with a carefully performed history taking, physical examination, and appropriate imaging studies. In a minority of cases, however, liver biopsy may be necessary to establish the diagnosis. In addition to the treatment of the specific liver disease, therapy should address the management of complications unique to cholestasis and progressive liver failure.
