Abstract

Low-profile antennas operating in the resonant mode have a narrow matching bandwidth. Various methods have been proposed to improve the bandwidth. In the present design, the excitation of surface waves is employed to enhance the bandwidth and the radiation performance of a square-ring radiating element. Different configurations to excite surface waves are proposed, and the performance of all configurations are investigated.
