Metabolic Syndrome in Pediatric Cancer Survivors

Project: Research project

Project Details

Metabolic Syndrome in Pediatric Cancer Survivors Metabolic Syndrome in Pediatric Cancer Survivors STATEMENT OF WORK ASU will collect fasting blood samples on 150 children and adolescents recruited through Phoenix Childrens Hospital to examine markers of inflammation and traditional and non-traditional cardiovascular biomarkers in survivors of childhood cancer. Samples will be collected in the ABC1 research facility by a research phlebotomist, processed, and stored in a -80C freezer. Once the complete cohort is collected, samples will be run by a research technician. We will explore the association between chemotherapy exposure, inflammation, and adverse cardiovascular biomarkers in this population. A subset of 20 childhood cancer survivors will also have stool samples collected (kits will be given to take home and ship back) for a pilot study of microbiome analysis.
