Description

Effects of Energy Efficiency Labels on Energy Conservation Effects of Energy Efficiency Labels on Energy Conservation Background Energy policy has been an important issue in Japan and U.S. This has become ever more so in Japan due the nuclear accident at Fukushima after the earthquake in 2011. The promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy has become the most important policy priority. The promotion of the renewable energy may hurt the competitiveness of energy intensive industries, especially in trade exposed sectors since the cost of the renewable energy such as solar is generally higher than other energy sources such as solar power. Therefore, the role of energy efficiency is critical in shaping future energy policy in Japan and US. Dr. Nicole Darnall in the School of Public Affairs at the Arizona State University and the Japanese team headed by Dr. Arimura have been analyzing the potential roles of energy efficiency. Specifically, the roles of energy efficiency label should be scrutinized.
