Abstract

In a study of 143 Iranian executives we found that visionary executives have a mental map which enables them to understand existing realities faced by their unit. They share their paradigm with their subordinates, providing them with a sense of purpose and direction. Their vision is based on a set of strong personal values. They arc dedicated to their vision, and show great enthusiasm for their paradigm. This enthusiasm help build their credibility among their subordinates. Finally, their vision is based on a global outlook, reflecting a deep understanding of the interdependence between their unit and their broader context.
