Abstract

A procedure that allows the value of the virtual origin to be determined for incompressible and supersonic turbulent bluff-body wakes was presented. It was found that in order to obtain results for supersonic bluff-body wakes, additional account must be taken of the more complicated geometry of the near-field recompression region on the virtual origin. In this case, the initial width of the wake was determined from the width of the 'neck' formed by the recompression. The effects of local self-induced force for confined supersonic bluff-body wakes were also investigated.
