Abstract
A mechanism for modulating and switching semiconductor lasers through a terahertz (THz) frequency electric fields is demonstrated. A sinusoidal THz driving fields (TDF) heat the electron-hole plasma in the lasers and consequently modifies the optical susceptibility. This allows the modulation of the output power of the semiconductor lasers.
