Abstract

The Cultural milieu of North East India is closely associated with the terms Megalithic culture. Most of the tribes of this region practiced or are still practicing erection of megaliths either in memory of a deceased or to commemorate an important event. There are slight variations here and there. Today, the study of megaliths assumes great importance for the fact that it has been identified as the great source of historical or prehistoric materials, giving directions to some of the important aspects of a society practicing it. This paper attempts to record both anthropological and non-anthropological literatures available in this context.
