Abstract

In regard to HVDC transmission systems that either are presently under construction or have been proposed, there is a general trend to apply thyristor valves rather than mercury-arc valves for rectification. This article presents the state of the art of this new device in HVDC transmission, and discusses basic circuits, design, construction, and operational methods.
