Abstract

Multiple hydrogen bonding (MHB)-terminated thermoreversible polyesters such as poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and poly(butylene isophthalate) (PIT) were synthesized in order to understand the behavior of MHB containing macromolecules. It was found that the melt viscosity of MHB PIT was higher than that of PITOH. It was also observed that MHB aggregates dissociated completely at 80°C. The results show that MHB-terminated telehelic PBT exhibits good mechanical properties in the solid state and good flow characteristics at the typical melt processing temperature.
