Abstract

This volume contains 13 papers resulting from a seminar series on thermodynamics of mineral systems held in 1979, at the University of Chicago. The intention is to give a cross-section of current activity in many different areas of thermodynamical geochemistry. The first article is a commentary on the basic equation of chemical equilibrium of J. Willard Gibbs, which underlies all of chemical thermodynamics. The succeeding papers are concerned with mineral systems or with melts (and are abstracted in the Experimental Section of this issue).R.A.H. English
