Abstract

There have been a variety of standards initiatives related to clinical decision support (CDS), and additional initiatives are in progress. In order to put those initiatives into perspective, this chapter reflects on what the principal reasons are for interest in such standards, whether the standards have had the desired impact, and what needs to be done to enhance CDS adoption and impact. The chapter asks the question, "How will such standards help in achieving the goal of wide dissemination and adoption of CDS?".
