Abstract
November 15 marked the end of the first year of funding of the National Science Foundation's National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA). Our anniversary provides an opportunity to step back and assess the center's development thus far. This article describes how NCGIA was established, the progress made on its research and education agendas, and current trends in the field and their potential impact on the center. -Author
