Abstract

Discusses the activities and research programmes of the NCGIA in the USA. Funded to $1.1 million over 5 years its primary purpose is basic research on geographic analysis, utilising geographic information systems. Five key research areas are identified; spatial analysis and statistics; spatial relationships and data structures; artificial intelligence; visualisation; social, economic and institutional issues. The NCGIA core educational curriculum is reviewed. -after Author
