Abstract

An approach for the measurement of rigid body boundary displacements using lattice fringe shifts is considered with particular reference to the Σ = 3 (111) twin boundary structure. A regressional analysis technique for the detection of systematic errors in the method is described and applied to results obtained for twins in gold. The applicability of this and other approaches is considered with reference to a number of physically significant examples.
