Abstract
The literature on the development of the structure of interests in children is reviewed and then directions and hypotheses for future research are presented. Most research on interests in children assumes the validity of the circular RIASEC structure but this assumption appears questionable given that there is a paucity of research on interest structure and its development in children. Focus is placed on detailing the extent of our knowledge in the area as well as proposing methodological and conceptual models for further study.
