Abstract

The living anionic synthesis of star shaped poly(1,3-cyclohexadiene) homopolymers was carried out via an 'arm first' methodology utilizing divinyl benzene as the core forming monomer. Through analysis of the kinetics of poly(1,3-cyclohexadiene) homopolymerization using in-situ FTIR spectroscopy, it was found that the coupling of the homopolymers arms to the divinyl benzene core is maximized. Selective hydrogenation of the poly(1,3-cyclohexadiene) arms resulted in novel polymers with interesting performance.
