Abstract

This chapter examines phosphorus demands associated with two key facets of human activities: food production and renewable biofuel production. It suggests innovative solutions for improving the efficiency of phosphorus usage at the farm scale, in crops, and in livestock. It also looks into the possibility of using modern tools of genetic engineering in improving phosphorus-use efficiency of both crop plants and livestock.
