Abstract
We report 133Cs and 23Na spectra of Cs 8Na xGe 136 clathrates. Fully loaded Cs 8Na 16Ge 136 shows only ionic signals from both Cs and Na nuclei. In contrast to the Cs 8Na 16Si 136 clathrate, germanium Cs 8Na 16Ge 136 clathrate shows no large Knight or paramagnetic shifts. However, when sodium is removed from Cs 8Na 16Ge 136, the resulting Cs 8Ge 136 clathrate shows a very large shift in the 133Cs NMR spectrum.
