Abstract

Presentation of Case A 56-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal pain, vomiting, and hematemesis. She was well until the day of admission, when she experienced the acute onset of nonradiating midepigastric pain while she was hurrying to work, soon followed by vomiting of gastric contents mixed with small amounts of fresh blood and brown particles; the pain was constant and became more severe. She vomited similar material once or twice thereafter, became sweaty and dizzy, and fell. She was placed in an ambulance, where her blood pressure in the sitting position was found to be 70/50…
