Abstract

Preparation of the defect spinels Ti3□Co2O8 and Ti4□Co4O12 was attempted by solid state exchange reactions. Ti4□Co4O12 was successfully synthesized but attempts at preparing pure Ti3□Co2O8 were unsuccessful, The enthalpy of transformation of 1 4Ti4□Co4O12 to CoTiO3 (ilmenite) was determined by calorimetry, ΔH°298 = -1.7 ± 1.0 kcal/mole.
