Abstract

The spectroscopic, kinetic and polarization properties of photoexcited dimethylaminobenzylidene 1,3-indandione (DMABI) are studied by excited state lifetime measurements. Results show that the DMABI solutions exhibit a strong dependence on the solvent polarity. The luminescence polarization peculiarities of the crystal modification of the solutions also indicates the formation of mixed intermolecular and intramolecular charge transfer excited states.
