title = "Special Issue Introduction for “The Significance of Immigration for Youth and Their Experiences With Violence and Juvenile Justice”",
author = "Peguero, {Anthony A.} and Chavez, {Jorge M.}",
note = "Funding Information: The conception of this special issue, as well as some of the included research articles, is an outgrowth of the work and activities of the Racial Democracy, Crime, and Justice Network (RDCJN). The purpose of RDCJN is to collectively undertake research and related initiatives geared toward exploring the implications of crime and justice processing for democratic participation in an increasingly diverse society. This focus is informed by currents of history, cutting-edge crime and justice research, unfolding world events, and the interests and engagements of networks participants. With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Ohio State University{\textquoteright}s (OSU{\textquoteright}s) Criminal Justice Research Center, and a variety of other units at OSU, the RDCJN convened in 2004 to set forth a national agenda that would be a catalyst for a new knowledge base pertaining to violence, crime, and justice issues revolving around race and ethnicity. RDCJN holds the dual goals of advancing research on the intersection of race, crime, and justice and of promoting racial democracy within the study of these issues by supporting junior and more experienced scholars from underrepresented groups. The editors and many of the contributors to this special issue are members of RDCJN, as such the articles included in this special issue speak to the complexity of understanding how race, ethnicity, and immigration frame youth behavior and social relationships, interactions with social institutions, and processing within the criminal justice system.
