Abstract

As software applications become more complex, software engineering will evolve. Specification languages, rapid prototyping, complexity metrics, and maintenance techniques will be its most significant products. In this article, the authors discuss some important aspects of software engineering, noting past accomplishments and speculating on trends and future needs in this important area.
