Abstract

It is pointed out that the presence of an anomalous trace in the stress tensors for quantum fields leads quite generally to the dominance of quantum vacuum effects at sufficiently early cosmological epochs. Violation of the strong energy condition then suggests cosmological singularity avoidance under a wide range of circumstances.
