Abstract

When two electrons are bound together to form a pair in a superconductor (SC), they can have parallel and antiparallel spin configurations, depending on the spatial parity. The overall anti-symmetry of the wave function requires that even spatial parity (s, d...) must have odd spin (singlet) while odd spatial parity (p, f...) must have even spin (triplet). The possibility of triplet superconductivity has been considered since the BCS theory over 60 years ago. Many SCs have been predicted to have triplet pairing, including the organic SC (TMTSF)2PF6 [1], the heavy fermion UPt3 [2], the perovskite oxide Sr2RuO4 [3-4], and the recent Fe-SCs [5]. However, triplet SCs exhibit very similar properties as singlet SCs and there are very few methods that can explore triplet superconductivity.
