Abstract
The solar convective drying system considered here consists of a solar air heater, a cross flow tunnel dryer, an auxiliary heat source to provide air at constant temperature to the dryer, a blower and a ducting system to allow for air recycle. A simulation model has been developed so as to maximize the solar fraction of energy input for given interface temperatures and product drying cycles spanning constant as well as falling rate regimes. However, for specified environmental conditions, the collector area has an upper bound because at no time the interface temperature can exceed the damage temperature for the product.
