Abstract

The paper presents a method of analysis and design of shear stress near the openings of cylindrical or nearly-cylindrical shells such as chimneys, broadcasting towers and similar structures. The derivations of the equations are given in appendix and they are formulated in a format suitable for computer programming. The design procedure is given step by step in two numerical examples.
