Abstract

HVDC terminals are modeled in load flow and stability programs using certain relationships for real and reactive power derived from a set of assumptions for fundamental frequency voltages and currents. A representation in which network phenomena are treated in complete differential equation form with switching of thyristors on a cycle-by-cycle basis yields more exact results including harmonic effects. This paper presents simulation results of converter characteristics by the exact method and compares these with those obtained from relations normally used in load flow and stability programs.
