Abstract

The effect of solvent polarization anisotropy in the nematic mesophase on the electron transfer (ET) activation energy was studied. A substantial variation of the solvent reorganization energy was observed as a function of the orientation of the donor-acceptor complex (DAC). The anisotropy was found to be sufficient to change the rate of ET by orders of magnitude by reorienting the DAC relative to the nematic director.
