Abstract

SUMMARY: After Mass, 282 Catholic attendees at three university Catholic centers completed the Bem Sex Role Inventory, the Attitudes Toward Women scale, and Perceptions of God Checklist. Feminine gender role identity and attitudes toward women predicted images of God as female. Image of God as female was positively related with more nontraditional attitudes toward women, while image of God as male was negatively related to attitudes toward women and positively related to feminine gender role identity. Feminine images of God were positively related to feminine gender role, and masculine images of God were negatively related to attitudes toward women for both men and women.
