Abstract

Electron transfer from an ion to the cathode is theoretically examined in adiabatic electrode reactions. Two independent conditions are possible for the occurrence of the reactions, viz., due to the desolvation of an ion on the electrode surface or due to thermal fluctuations of the melt near the ion. Equations are derived for the polarization curve under both conditions.
