Abstract

Distributed Generators (DGs) are required to be equipped with certain Anti-Islanding Protection (AIP) functions due to safety concerns. This paper proposes a novel AIP method based on reactive power injection and Second Order Generalized Integrators (SOGIs). The method is able to identify islanding under the worst case which is usually known as Non-Detection Zone (NDZ). The method shows a better performance in system frequency/angle measurement compared with traditional Phase Locked Loop (PLL) and uses a Double-SOGI topology for fast computation of harmonic amplitude instead of using Fourier Transformation. The detailed description of the proposed method is presented and its advantages over the current solutions are discussed. PLECS simulations as well as preliminary Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) simulations have been conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.
