Abstract

We have employed Raman scattering to measure the spinwave frequencies of various rare earth orthoferrites in order to determine both their in-plane and out-of-plane anisotropy constants. For YFeO3, for example, we observe modes at 11.0 cm-1 and 17.3 cm-1 which imply an in-plane anisotropy field of 1047 Oe.
