Abstract

Modern Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs) operating with 100% Direct Reduce Iron (DRI) or a mix of DRI and scrap feature continuous feed of charge material (i.e. DRI) along with semi-continuous discharge of slag, as such; fundamentally it is different than BOF or conventional scrap-EAF processes. In the literature, modeling of phosphorus reaction for such processes is scarce. Therefore, in this paper, we have developed a process modeling for phosphorus reaction in the EAF: DRI, scrap, and variable scrap & pig iron cases. Additionally, a glance of the effect of operating variables on the final phosphorus content, for instance the effect of DRI's phosphorus content, oxygen use, and flux addition will be presented.
