Abstract
A theory of the transient response of an electrochemical system to a potential-step perturbation (chronoamperometry) is developed using the Sumi-Marcus formalism. Depending on the value of the rate constant, the current response can be diffusional or exponential. The rate constant obtained includes strongly nonadiabatic and solvent-controlled limiting cases. A new method of determining the range of electron transfer adiabacity is proposed.
