Abstract

Ion scattering spectra were obtained for planar and near-planar channeling of He** plus in germanium. Strong yield oscillations were observed in the energy spectra of the backscattered ions. The wavelength and stopping power of the incident ions were determined from measurements of the energy separation between yield oscillations from spectra taken with various entrance and exit angles. The angle of inclination of the beam direction to the planes that produced the maximum scattering yield was also measured. The wavelengths and angles for maximum provided information about the strength of the interaction potential between the ions and the target atoms.
