Abstract

The symmetry and spectrum of both even and odd-parity states near the charge-transfer gap of Sr2CuO2Cl2 were taken into account using nonlinear optical spectroscopy. Polarization analysis of the nonlinear optical response provided evidence for an even-parity state at 2 eV, with a1g symmetry, and allowed to estimate the magnitude of the dipole matrix element that couples this excitation to the CT exciton.
