Abstract
In the early 1980s, ASHRAE and the Department of Energy (DOE) jointly formed a Special Project Committee (SP-41) to do extensive research in energy conservation in building design. The results of this project demonstrated that significant cost-effective improvements could be made to the existing standard. These findings were submitted to ASHRAE's newly created Standing Standards Project Committee 90 Revision (SSPC 90R) to be used as the basis for revision of ASHRAE/IES Standard 90A-1980. This article summarizes some of the changes enacted in the new ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1989.
